BACK FROM THE DEAD

HELLLLLLLLLLLLLLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO findettes!!!! Did you miss me?? It has been AGES – a whole THREE DAYS since I have posted on the beloved blog!  I know I cannot believe it either.  S L  A C K or what?.

Firstly, you will all be pleased to know that I am not dead.  Although it was definitely struggle town, I made it through.  Just.   And – I have been plodding away at work and at home, not quite yet getting back to my usual super busy not enough hours in the day how am I possibly going to get all this done self, and admittedly the blog fell by the wayside.  And then – I began thinking ‘Oh its just the blog… its not really getting anywhere and no one except my Mother has noticed my lack of posts.. sob sob boo’ and began to get all depressed about it – WHEN my phone buzzed.  It was a twitter message – from my very first fashion find client who tweeted the four most magical words I have heard in a long while ‘I miss your posts’.  OH  yes let’s hear that again – this time in bold for good measure – I MISS YOUR POSTS.  Bang.  That is exactly the boost I needed. SO – its bye bye couch, weeping eyes and hanky addiction; and HELLO world. I AM BACK. Get excited.

SO.  What has been happening whilst I have been off in lalaland?  WELL.   CHECK THIS OUT:

 Oh yes – it is the arrival of the Alexander Wang cotton and leather spliced jacket as seen on Olivia Palermo in numerous outfits and god I am excited about this one!  I haven’t tried it on yet (resisted the urge to create a makeshift runway in between the cubicles in the office) but already I am in love.  I shall never take it off.  And with the weather hitting a whopping 12 degree maximum here in sunny Ballarat tomorrow – looks like I never will.  Fine by me!

What else?  Well being sick is the perfect time to peruse the net and buy stuff to make me feel better.  Which is just what I did.  Here are some of my latest purchases:

Looks like denim is getting a good run at the moment in the 'I most want to buy it' stakes – not quite sure why as I think I actually own about 50 pairs and cannot actually wear them to work so that really only leaves 104 weekend days in which I can wear them per year and then if you remove the summer months by halving this you have about 52 jeans-worthy wearable days and I would already have this many pairs of jeans so looks like I have enough pairs of jeans to alternate for each weekend day of the year. Great.  But now I can add two more to the bunch for good measure.  Plus – three jackets; who doesn’t need more jackets now that the weather is cooling down and HOW AMAZING is that Kate Moss quilted little number? Will look super hot teamed with the new jeans as above… and well probably didn’t really need that Shakuhachi blazer but since it was only $32 dollars I couldn’t really pass it up but hopefully its not going to be as shiny as I fear it may be. And then the SUPER warm snuggly Gorman egg shaped camel woollen coat is a present from my mother for my 29th birthday - so I have two WHOLE months til I can call that one mine.  Bummer - that is AGES.  I will be aiming for early birthday presents this year that is for sure. So YEAH.

 

Then there is this bag which I haven’t bought but I think I really want to and it doesn’t mean I love the MJ any less but this one is also quilted and navy and boxy with chains and just fabulous… what do you think????

I LOVE. And Luella isn’t around anymore which makes it even more rare and special and OH I REALLY WANT IT.  Buy it now $175… pretty hard to refuse!

Okay so here is todays outfit.

The girl in the Jeans West at the plaza on my lunch break said she ‘loved the warm tones and drapiness of your outfit’ – I was pretty chuffed with this after feeling like death and wearing the grey marle handmade harem slash trackpants for the last three days straight.  She has a good eye.  SO outfit contains: Witchery caramel knit drape cardi ($ um you know I cant even remember? I bought it from DFO South Wharf.  I do love the colour and the front drape looks fab worn under leather jackets when it gets really cool), worn over a Sussan tomato red viscose shell top (40 in store Sussan.  FAB colour.  Popped back into the local store at the plaza but they had finished the 50% off sale items… bummer), next comes the hardest working Levi black skinny pants (jeggings.. eeek) and then the chunky Seed femme dark tan leather cogs complete the look (the flatlays actually have my Hoss boots as the footwear component – upon dressing they felt way too casual for work so I switched them up – just in case you sharp eyes noticed).  I then added an Aztec print scarf also from Seed Femme, and wore my Husk draped leather jacket over the top. BANG.  Matching in perfectly with the colour palette of the new season autumn product that is hitting the shops as we speak.  I even want maroon jeans.  I havent worn maroon since 1994 - I think I had some amazing maroon ribbed legging that I wore with an oversized jumper, tucked into scrunch socks with hiking boots.  Come to thinkof it - I could totally get away with that now.....

OH just as an FYI to all you eBay sellers out there.. I do agree that it is a lovely idea to wrap up the garment before putting it in the post bag... BUT I would recommend NOT using paper towel.  Oh yes.

I HAVE A COLD.

And not just a little sniffle, a little *cough cough* oh you don't sound so good; oh no; I have a full blown tap nose leaky eye head splitting full sneeze banging your head against the wall mother of all colds cold.  FAB.

So - just about the worst weekend. EVER.  I have spent the entire weekend (minus a four hour window in which I was at the WB v Geelong Cats practise match in Geelong - totally NOT my choice) parked on the couch, with a blanket, dog and never-ending cups of tea as my only friends.  This was my world today:

The bible? Check (Shop til you drop).  Three pack of hankies? Double check - the bf kindly went and grabbed the prettiest prints he could find (for male hankies.  Seems he didn't even think to look for female ones.  Oh well - the thought was there) and finally a jumbo box of Cadbury Creme eggs - just to put a smile on my face.  Check again.  Yes - that is the woollen blanket in the background that has become my entire world.  WAH.  

AND then just to top it off - I am still under my weekend shopping ban. I had given my word that no shopping was going to occur from 4pm Friday until Monday morning, and I HAD to stick with it - illness or no illness. SO there I was, sitting on the couch with ample time to peruse the net for more online shopping bargains; instead I had to contend myself to watching the fourth instalment of Bring It On (as if versions 2 and 3 were even necessary) and the American version of Celebrity Apprentice (poor Dennis Rodman).   It was pure hell.

Needless to say - I have nothing else to report.  I am going to take my hankies, tea and makeshift blanket-cocoon and hop straight back into bed.

hi - i'm FFIFY and I am a shopaholic.

So this post was going to be about my exciting purchases at the sample sales attended yesterday, plus some fabulous items I received in the post yesterday.  I started writing, when it hit me.  OH MY GOD.  Here is a startling fact for you.  I have just bought 15 items in the space of four days.  F O U R days. F I F T E E N items.  OH.  That equates to 3.75 items purchased on a daily basis. I don’t even want to calculate how much money that amounts to. Hmmm.   I think I may have a problem…..

As mentioned in a previous post – my shopping habits go through stages of ups and downs.  A few weeks ago, I was in the middle of a shopping funk.  Hardly anything decent was ending on eBay, and nothing in stores was really capturing my attention.  During this time, my savings got a much needed boost, as I had quite a bit of extra cash lying around.  Bonus.  And then, fast forward to present day – and there is absolutely no extra cash.   Instead, amazing items are ending every hour and sample sales coming out of my samples sales; my wallet just cannot keep up to the demand.   As my eBay account is also shared by my darling mother, she is privy to every last item I am buying online.  She is the little bird on my shoulder, telling me just how much I am spending and how I don’t need another pair of skinny black pants (two of the items bought are skinny black pants), another pair of wooden heeled clogs (two of my items were wooden heeled clogs), another striped tube skirt (one of the items was a striped tube skirt) or another pair of wide leg pants (two of the items were wide leg pants).  And don’t even get me started on her opinion of the Kate Moss for Topshop quilted bohemian floral printed jacket I nabbed last night.  As much as her harping on about my spending habits annoys me (I love you Mum) – I oh so need it to push me in the right direction.  I do need to know that my life will not be over if I don’t have all of these items.  I do need to be told that those Jeffrey Campbell wedge heeled leopard print boots are completely ugly and over the top.  I do need to be reminded that  I have a holiday coming up in which I will need spending money, but also that having a holiday doenst mean I need an entire new summer wardrobe for the eight days that I will be in Perth.  Without this constant stream of advice, I would be flat broke, and most likely in the gutter (albeit with my entire wardrobe)  So thanks to Mum, for all her hard work in keeping me on the (almost) straight and narrow shopping trip of life.

So anyway – darling Mother has put me on a shopping ban.  I am not allowed to purchase a single item from now until Monday.  And yes – I do mean this Monday (two and a half days away).  Sounds super simple right? WRONG.  There are so many amazing things ending on eBay in the next two days it is just totally unfair.  Things that I MUST HAVE.  And yet – I have given my word.  I will endeavour to remain purchase-free for the entire weekend.  And yes – there is a reward in it for me. And yes again – I can also be bribed with monetary compensation.

So moving right along to today’s outfit.  Today – I had some interviews at work – so needed to look ‘professional’. Here:

Today’s super doper professional appropriate attire included: An Atelier Pearl cropped black jacket ($40 eBay).  Don’t know much about this label; they have a store in Port Melbourne with their own designs.  It’s a beautiful quality, perfectly cut jacket and I love it.  Worn over the old fave caramel sleeveless Cue shirt ($35 in store Cue); and then teamed over my POP colour cobalt Saba pants ($70 eBay).  LOVE these – walked over to the plaza on my lunchbreak today and received many compliments.  Fab.  All finished off with my $1.67 vintage wedges.  BEST BUY EVER.  Professional – bang.

And then – here is a happy snap of the FOUR parcels that were oh so kindly delivered to bootcamp that would have been waiting for me on my desk when I arrived this morning:

sample sale madness. I AM EXCITED.

Today is a VERY EXCITING DAY.  Yes - bold font and full capital letters are requried to highlight the true extent of my excitement levels.  I am so shouting right now.  Opening my inbox yesterday I received my usual Missy Confidential sample sale alert email; but as there hadn’t been anything much good happening in sample sale land for quite a while I actually didn’t open it immediately.  WHAT A MISTAKE. It would have meant I would've been in this glorious state of anticipation for an hour or so longer.  When I eventually got around to opeing said email, OH I was in HEAVEN. There are not one, but TWO amazing sample sales happening in the big smoke from today til Saturday… that were just begging me to attend.  They were.  I could not refuse.  Immediately I started planning out my schedule around attending: Friday night? Too hard after work – way too long a drive and I prob wouldn’t make both before they shut. Boo.  Saturday? Nope no can do, off to the football in Geelong with the BF (yay). Hmm.  Only one option remaning.  So – here I am.  In the Melbourne office, on a Thursday.  I gave up my one and only chance to sleep in past 5:30 am this week to come down; but GOD… these sales are definitely worth it.  Here:

First off the bat is the Gorman factory outlet sale.  Having purchased 3 Gorman items in the past week - I am loving them to bits right now.   I have never been to one of their sales before so anticipation levels are at peak level.. Aiming to get there immediately after work; just a quick hop, skip and jump over to Bridge Rd.  FAB.  Next on the list is the Zimmermann warehouse sale, just down Punt Rd in South Yarra.  I attended their last sale and snapped up a pair of bikinis, two dresses and a silk blazer - all items I had been coveting for quite some time.  Again - excitement levels are maxed out.  How can one be expected to concentrate on work-related matters when there are so many fabulous shopping experiences to be had today??  Im trying though.  I totally am.  Really.

Just ducked out to get a vegie dumpling noodle soup for lunch.  Nom nom.  One of the many benefits on the Melbourne office is its proximity to the South Melbourne Market.  Love it.

Today's outfit.  Now there was no rhyme, reason, inspiration or thought really behind today's outfit.  Basically it was a last minute decision to zip down to Melbourne at 5:20am this morning - so I grabbed a previous outfit that I know works.  Also added the newness of the $1.67 vintage clogs - god I love these. Here:

Again - I have rehashed this outfit.  This may very well be the third time it has appeared - and for that I am truly sorry.  But, that is what you get for picking out a Melbourne appropriate outfit at 5:30 am.  SO today includes a Witchery mustard draped oversized shirt ($35 in store Witchery. Do love the drape of this shirt, and the colour works surprisingly well against my skin. Fab), worn over the old faithful navy and white striped Sportsgirl skirt ($79 in store Sportsgirl - wardrobe winner). Finished off with my ever-faithful knotted Witchery tan skinny belt, which incidentally matches the new vintage clogs perfectly.  Bang. 

In order to raise funds for the $$$$ of savings I am bound to shell out today at one or hopefully both sample sales, I put a number of items on ebay last night:

bootcamp blues and latest shoe buys. I LOVE SHOES.

I AM DYING.  No joke.  I cannot move.  Getting up is painful, walking is a nightmare and bending down to retrieve a stray pen – forget it.  Bootcamp was held yesterday due to the public holiday, and was full to the brim of circuit training; squats, planks, lunges, push ups – you name it, this body did it.  And then – backed it up again this morning in our usual Wednesday session.  Trainer kindly thought ‘OH maybe you are all still sore from yesterday – so how about we do some running instead?’ YAY.  Yes please – just what I dream of at 6am every morning.  So the entire hour was chock-a-block full of sprints, laps, shuttle runs and then OH how about a few more sprints.  All finished off with three minute planking and ab work sessions.  At one point – I actually thought my legs were going to give way.  HELL.

So today’s outfit needed to be as simply and unrestrictive and as fuss free as possible.  Flats were a must –  all I can manage is a slow-footed shuffle that looks rather like I am in dire need of the bathroom.  Here:

So today’s outfit includes a Country Road leopard print silk shift dress ($45 eBay)  Could be new to the blog?   Has been lurking in the dreaded ironing pile for some time now; last night I motivated myself to tackle the ever-growing pile of crinkled clothes - as Ihad a lightbulb moment where I realised this is where most of my prized possessions have ended up.  My wardrobe room has literally expanded to twice its size after a 1.5 hour ironing marathon.  Fab.  Teamed this 60’s inspired dress with Witchery tan/khaki/cream and metal hardware gladiator flats ($90 in store Witchery).  Love these, BUT as I have mentioned once or twice I am allergic to metal.  The top of my feet turns a strange blackey/green colour where the metal touches it, which needs to be scrubbed off with almost disinfectant grade cleaning products.  This lovely phenomenon also occurs when such metal comes into contact with my neck, ears, fingers – anywhere it touches my skin turns the same very disturbing shade that looks something like a bruise crossed with gangrene.  Charming.  It is not painful however so I do continue to wear most things despite this hideous yet purely cosmetic result.  I love these shoes.

AND THEN – look what arrived in the post today:

My $1.67 Ebay vintage clogs.  I am more amazed then when I snapped them up - they are a super fab style and in great condition, and fit p e r f e c t l y.  How could you get a better buy?  And all hand delivered to my desk - I dont even need to move.  Which is good - as right now I am not capable of going anywhere.

OH AND for those of you with a super keen memory - you may remember in my previous post how I was talked out of a number of items by my darling 'meaning well'  sister, on my latest trip north.  WELL turns out karma is alive and well - as just yesterday I came across the exact pair of Gorman 'She'll be Apples' latte coloured wooden heeled clogs on eBay - for less than half the price of the in-store pair.  Here:

Honestly findettes, why would you pay $169 on sale when you can nab these gorgeous babies for only $85.  New.  My faith in the wonder that is eBay is once again restored (not that it was really wavering in the first place).  There is no better shopping mecca on the face of the EARTH.

OMG. MOST exciting eBay purchase THIS YEAR

Okay so I know we are only in March and really how many eBay purchases could I possibly have bought so far (try 42.  No - that is not a joke.  That is actually a bit scary......addicted much?) but I am going to continue with the claim that I have just bought THE BEST EBAY PURCHASE OF THE YEAR.  Here - proof:

ALEXANDER WANG LEATHER SLEEVE COTTON BLEND BLAZER.  Bang.  Price?  OH this is the best part - $150 buy it now.  Saw it last night at 11.10pm when I was actually meant to be asleep; it was just listed by one of my favourite sellers.  Hesitated for a moment.... do I need it? Do I love it?  To confirm.. I turned to google.  And found these:

SHE has it.  This jacket.  This very same leather-sleeved, cotton blend, contrasting grey marle and black oversized blazer that is available for me to purchase right here and right now at 11:25pm on a monday night whilst lying in bed in regional Victoria for one hundred and fifty dollars. Uh - SOLD.

SO exciting.  I couldn't sleep.  Still blown away. CANT WAIT TO SHOW YOU ALL.

Olivia and I will once again be twins. My knees are not quite as pointy though.

ahhhhhh three day weekend. oh how I love you.

So I am at the airport two hours before takeoff (what can I say - I am ridiculously anal about being on time) which presents me with the perfect opportunity to fill you all in on what an amazing weekend I have just had.  Beach, Byron, Brisbane, uh... B(shopping), B(eating) - okay so I couldn't continue on with my B theme BUT I think you get the picture.. overall it was BRILLIANT.

Here is a pictorial look at what occurred over the course of the last three days:

DAY 1 Saturday:

GOOD MORNING BRISBANE:

Early rise.  What a perfect blue summers day.  Shopping in Brisbane town.  First stop, the city.  Checked out Queens Plaza (lovely), then did the mall (not as lovely), and then moved on to Brisbane Myer Centre (definitely not lovely).  Picked up a amazing Gorman 'Island in the Stream' printed cupro shift dress ($149 in store Gorman); perfect for dinner that night.  Here she is:

Super hot. And in a lovely cupro fabric which feels amazing and slinky on.  LOVE.  I was also tempted by some of the coloured clogs and a number of dresses/skirts/shirts but was reprimanded by my not-so-shopping-adddicted sister - who quite reasonably stated 'this is the first store we have been in. Don't spend all your money'.  Oh yes MUM.  When did she get so wise?  Those genes certainly wasn't passed on to me.

Next we headed out to the inner city suburb of Paddington for a peruse of the shops and a quick bite of lunch.  Paddington is this funky super hilly suburb full of rambling Queenslander homes; literally some of the hills feel like you are walking on a diagonal in order to stand up straight.  Loved it.  Massive fan of old Queensland architecture.

After lunch we headed over to James St, which is the 'super-trendy Brisbane version of Chapel St' in the Valley.  Perused through Easton Pearson, Calexico, Sass and Bide, Frockshop and Zomp (where I was talked out of yet another pair of clogs - grrrrr), and then coffeed and caked up a storm in the whole foods market.  YUM.

Later on - all dressed up for dinner in my new super fab Gorman dress; plus the hardest working turquoise necklace getting around (it still amazes me how, albeit being large and chunky and in your face and turquoise, it manages to match back with every single outfit I own.  It is truly a MAGICAL necklace).   Dinner was at the Himalayan Cafe in the cute inner city suburb of New Farm.. Amazing food and fab service all to the tune of a rather loud meditation cd - overall a very Zen eating experience.  Here:

After we had gorged ourselves on curries, rice and amazing bread we headed out to peruse a few of the local Valley bars - Lady Lamington (which is a old church converted into an amazing outdoor nightspot), Kerbside (a funky industrial-esque bar that felt like you were chilling at your brothers garage party) and then Cloudland (the most amazing place I have ever seen - a multi level bar with real-life trailing plants, a sweeping staircase, water features and the most intricate seating arrangements ever).  This is it:

Bright and early sunday morning, sis and I packed the car and headed off to Byron, on an 'just over an hour or so' roadtrip.  Almost 2.5 hours, a servo drinks run and one horrible roadside portaloo experience that I will never forget later we arrived at our destination.   Fab.  Having not been to Byron for almost a decade; I could hardly remember this amazing place.  The weather was perfect, northern NSW countryside is just magical and the beaches blew my mind.  Lunch was amazing, the shopping was fantastic (although I got talked out of yet more items; Sportsgirl shirt, Magali Pascal blouse and Goddess of Babylon kimono duster coat I am talking about YOU - thanks oh so much SIS); overall it was a FABULOUS day.  Here - take a look. Ahhh it was heaven.  I didn't want to leave.

But leave we did, as we had to get home before the supermarket shut... apparently although being a capital city Brisbane does not offer supermarket shopping experiences to its residents after 6pm on Sundays.  Bizarre.  That was so ten years ago.  Get with the times Brisbane.

On the way home we detoured past the Gold Coast.  Now this came as a real shock - but I hated it.  Hated the mall, hated the crowds, hated the shopping - WAH.  Where was this magical, fun-filled, most exciting and bestest holiday destination ever that I had continued to dream about since I was a kid? Gone. Vamooshed.  The beaches were nice and the sixties architecture entertained me, but the wondrous lure of the Goldy has vanished. Completely.  Oh Surfers, not such a paradise after all:

Sad. I had such high hopes.

You will be pleased to know that we made it to the supermarket, and homemade hamburgers ruled dinner. 'Horrible bosses' later - bed.

And - here I am.

That was my view.  Turns out I actually forgot to press the all-important 'publish' button before boarding, hence why this is being published at 9:30pm instead. Oops.

Overall - I had an AHmazing time.  Although I only bought ONE item - it was still a magical weekend.  Northern NSW - I love you.  Wonder what property prices are like....?

OKAY. Exciting news.  GUESS who is off to Byron for the weekend?  Kind of a rhetorical question; I wouldn’t be telling you if it wasn’t me otherwise it really wouldn’t be exciting news after all now would it? I think not.  AND – not just any weekend.  It’s a looonnnggg weekend. FAB.

So I’ll fess up – I am not going there for the entire weekend. OH.  I am actually just heading on up to Brisvegas to hang with the sister for the weekend; but a trip to Tallows beach is most definitely on the cards.  Itinerary as follows: tonight – fly up.  Arrive 12.30am. WOOP.  Did I mention I was up at 5:30 am for bootcamp this morning? It is going to be a long day.  I am prepared though; Berocca you are my dearest friend.  Saturday: this is to be spent shopping in Brisbane town.  Heading to the Valley, James St and then across to Paddington, with lunch in the city in between.  Dinner is planned for the Himalayan café – delish.  Sunday we are squeezing in a breakfast session in Byron in the a.m. (shopping and swimming and eating are all must dos whilst here), followed by a quick Gold Coast Cavill Ave stopover in the afternoon.  WHAT a weekend.  I shall keep you updated findettes with any purchases I nab along the way, and some super amazing how I wish you were here beach shots.

Here is today’s outfit.  Greatly inspired by my current mood ‘brightly coloured bohemian vintage-esque hooray it’s almost a long weekend and I'm heading to Byron and beaches/swimming involved and YAY shopping’.  This is me:

SO today I have thrown 'smart business casual' to the wind; today I am bringing back my wild bohemian roots.  Okay so I am originally from Werribee and I am unsure just how many 'wild bohemians' reside there; but still.  This is the feel I am going for.  Today's outfit includes:  HOT pink vintage silk Target shirt ($25 Round She Goes market).  Yes it is Target, and yes it is FLURO PINK.  Has rather an eighties box-tastic shape, but I am loving the drape and contrasting wooden buttons.    First time out for this little one - please welcome her to the team.  Have already had a fellow employee comment 'My my dont you stand out?' - hmmm good or bad?  Not going to think about that one too much... Worn tucked into Sportsgirl floral/paisley print button through midi skirt ($25 Mill Markets Daylesford).  Love the print, the fit, the way the previous owner tied the bottom in a knot and I cant for the life of me get it undone to I have to leave it this way permanently but its all good as I have decided I like it that way. Fab.  And then lastly I have completed the look with the lovely orangy-tan D.Co Copenhagen caged wedges.  Done and done.

I would have liked to add my statement J.Crew turquoise necklace in to the mix.. just not so work-appropriate.  I do however, have the oversized turquoise stone ring on.. a small concession to my love of jewellery that manages to pass under the 'smart business casual' radar.

OH and second most exciting news of the day - eBay purchase #34,576:

Are you ready for this? Are you sitting down?  These vintage leather sandals with wooden heels in fab condition cost me exactly $1.67.  NO JOKE. Add on $8 for postage - and I get change from a tenner.

EBAY - OH how I love you.  Don't EVER change/leave me or I will die.
