So – hadn’t even updated you all on any spending habits from the holiday. Turns out that spending every minute of every day with your partner leads to some pretty interesting (nice) or can we please not (less nice) or I really don’t want to have this conversation at all (even less nice) conversations. One of the key points I took from our discussion was naturally my spending habits. Now – having this blog was meant to actually *help* lower my clothes purchasing.. as most of my time was meant to be spent looking for items *for other people* and not for myself. Although I am most certainly finding these fab items for you all – I am also exposing myself to a larger degree of items, brands and amazing fantastic wonderful *must have* pieces that I have ever experienced – that are just begging me to buy. Amazing prices, fabulous designers – how can I possibly resist? So even though I sneakily send all items to work.. he is quickly becoming more clued in to what I am wearing, and whether he has seen that particular printed Gorman shift dress before. Damn.
Outcome of the talk was I need to be ‘more serious’ with my money making decisions. In other words – STOP SPENDING. I declined from buying anything from eBay over the course of the holiday – a pretty massive reaction and one he should be very proud of. In regards to his request – I have done some heavy thinking. I am blocking out this last part (which requires the most unrealistic goal of not buying anything), and instead have made a more literal (and REALISTIC) translation. No longer will I purchase cheap and cheery chain store items for a quick fashion fix; from now on all purchase decisions will be way ‘more serious’. I will only buy investment pieces – ones that will stand the fashion test of time, in which the cost per wear will work out rather favourably, and which each piece can be considered ‘timeless’ and ‘something I will wear for at least the next year or two’. Although the initial outset for these items may be a tiny (or a lot) more at the time of purchase, in the long run I am ultimately making better purchasing decisions, and choosing quality or quantity. More mature, more thoughtful and way ‘more serious’. This is the new spending me. Hold on tight.
So the new me had already began doing this before she left – what foresight. I am talking about this that was kindly awaiting me on my desk upon return:
Oh yes – It is the ABSOLUTELY AMAZING $1700 Lisa Ho grey shearling coat. Purchased for a cool $450, this jacket is simply amazing. Words cannot describe how much it means to me and the wardrobe room, and I see many happy times for us ahead. It is amazing quality; the sheepskin is super soft and I never want to take it off. And the fact that it was 3 degrees here this morning – means I never have to. Fab.
Moving on to today’s outfit. A lovely choice of black and greys; a sombre start to the working week:
Still working on those finds my findettes – they are coming through thick and strong. Stay tuned.
Wonder if a neon pink Tibi cropped jumper falls under the ‘investment pieces’ category? It is super hot….. if not, then there is is a khaki Antik Batik trench which would certainly fit the bill...
