a new thursday resolution

Thursday, January 12, 2012
Happy Thursday! Thursday means it is almost friday which is just fab. In a fantastic mood today – not entirely sure why but that is not important.. what is important is that good mood equals good day for spending.  So after fashion finding some amazing Olivia Palermo outfits last night.. I am once again motivated back on the ‘parisienne chic’ style bandwagon.. and steering away from my tendencies towards boholicious.  I have come to the realisation that the words ‘boho’ and ‘smart business casual’ are not related.  They are not even distant cousins from the mountains who see each other every second Christmas, and as much as I try to work my Winter Kate silk printed kimono into my work-appropriate wardrobe.. its just not going to happen.  Fail.  So, moving on from this, I have once again decided to head in the Palermo direction; with her as my muse I cannot fail.

Which means there are a few more items I need to acquire for my wardrobe room in order to pull off her look.  She is all about understated elegance and simplicity, quality, tailoring, complimentary colours and draped fabrics; whereas I can find myself heading more towards over the top trends, eye-catching prints on maxi dresses, pants and pencil skirts, muu-muus (this is according to my sister – clarification: shapeless tent-like dresses as favoured by Hawaiiann middle-aged women) and ridiculously large amounts of layering.  Sometimes I do still find myself wearing a dress over pants. YES listen to yourself – you just said DRESS OVER PANTS.  Admittedly it was a Zimmermann Shiver tunic dress over black skinnies but the end result remains the same; from now girl on its one or the other. Choose.

So today will be spent (apart from fitting in some actual work work of course) sourcing some items which will help me say goodbye to my beloved bohoiness, and HELLO to Liv’s NYC chic.  I am on the fashion find for some tailored blazers, silk blouses to tuck into softly midi skirts, super skinny pants, printed shifts and silk shirt dresses in gorgeous shades of caramel (HANG ON already have this one sorted - as below). All paired back with printed booties, statement necklaces and a marc Jacobs bag or two.  Ill report back later today with my finds.... stay tuned!

Oh almost forgot. Todays outfit! So as above inspiration was taken from Miss P – and included Seed Femme poly collarless shirt ($70 – instore staff discount – note: I know people complain about polyester as a fabric.. but if done correctly I find poly to be a lifessaver.. tip your lunch on yourself or scrunch it up in your bag on hols and viola – still good as new. Love it), Metalicus woven navajo print tube skirt ($? – christmas present from my darling mother (found in ECHUCA of all places) – love love LOVE this skirt!), teamed with J Crew turquoise statement necklace ($25 – eBay) and worn with CR weave flatform wedges ($35 – eBay).  After donning said outfit... found that Seed Femme neutral ankle elastic-sided boots were a better fit ($95 – instore staff discount) – see insert pic.

Thats it for now... talk soon lovelies
