retail rule #296 - heels are not warehouse appropriate attire

Tuesday, February 21, 2012
Today is a busy day.  Today -  I am on the road. First up - a visit to the warehouse; followed by a day of store visits and competitor shopping.  Usually, this would mean I would be dressed in head to toe (insert previous employer's brand here) product; and swan around stores highlighting to customers exactly how fabulous our products can look, whilst sneakily purchasing sale tops from Country Road whilst perusing their range.  But no.   Not today.  Those days are behind me.  Reason one, you cannot wear pet products.  Reason two, heels, cropped pants and pop colour blazer would look pretty ridiculous amongst the sea of polos at the intended stores; not to mention prancing around the warehouse in my *mandatory* fluro vest (although I have done this before at my last job. Many times).   Reason three, there will be no Country Road. OH.

So today's outfit is plain. Unassuming.  Subtle.  A term more fitting would definitely have to be BORING.  Yes.  SO because of this, there is certainly not going to be any pictures of  'rather dull and unfashionable store and warehouse appropriate' outfit, as it is not fit for public consumption.

Instead, I shall be posting an outfit which is much more interesting.  One that required more thought and trying on and outfitting in the wardrobe room. This is my 'after work dinner with girlfriends from jobs past' outfit.  Look here:
I realised (on the wonderful 1.5 hour long journey down to work this morning) that I must have subconsciously taken inspiration from the sign-holding Vicroads workmen who are forever completing roadworks on the freeway.  Think about it, their get up is an eerily similar combo of blue pants, brown shirt and a fluro jacket - albeit a more heavy duty wash and wear version of the above. Hot.

Today's outfit includes the brilliant burst of highlighter citrus that is the Zimmermann Limonata silk drape blazer ($100 eBay.  Will never get tired of this beauty); worn over a Cue caramel sleeveless shirt ($40 in store Cue at Brisbane DFO), which is tucked into the electric blue Saba cropped leg pants ($65 eBay, today is their first outing!).  Finished off with Seed Femme dark tan chunky clog heels - to add some height and tie in the caramel tones of the shirt. Done.  It is hanging up next to me at my salmon pink temporary work station in the Melbourne office, next to the 1.5 metre high cat scratching post.  UM.... yes:

Proof.  Scratching post and all.
